THOUSANDS of people are expected to make their way to Worthing next month to experience the town's first Birdman competition.
Worthing pier was announced as the new host for the event – set to take place on July 5 and 6 – earlier this year after Bognor Pier, its home for the last 29 years, was deemed no longer safe enough.
The flight list for the intrepid birdman and birdwomen flyers is made up of 30 entries, ranging from the more serious flyers in the Leonardo da Vinci and Condor classes, to the fun flyers in the Kingfisher class.
There is even a £30,000 jackpot for the serious flyer whose machine takes him or her at least 100 metres from the pier.
Both the Leonardo da Vinci and Condor classes will be taking off at on the Saturday from 1.30pm to 2.30pm and from 2.50pm to 3.50pm on the Sunday.
The Kingfishers will take off from 1.50pm to 2.50pm on the Sunday only.
The finale, on the Sunday, will be a demonstration from a stunt plane.
