A HEADTEACHER has been told part of her school's SATs test have officially been lost – after she has spent the whole summer being given different excuses.
Michele Doran, the headteacher at Michael Ayres Junior School, has been chasing up testing company ETS for her Key Stage 2 exams.

The school has received the English, science and two of the three parts of the maths papers. The missing paper is the mental maths, which makes up 20 of the 100 marks for the maths exam.

She said: "I'm being driven absolutely barmy after being told all sorts of things. They told me they could not get access to the school, which is absolute rubbish – there are 300 or so children here until quarter to four.

"They told me I did not want the delivery – as if I'm going to say that."

The National Assessment Agency, which has taken over some of the SATs papers, told her this week the papers had been lost.

"I am angry and frustrated – not for me, but for the children and my staff, because they have put so much effort into this."

The papers were supposed to be sent out in the first week of July.

A spokesman for NAA said: "As the mental arithmetic papers are missing an overall test level can not be awarded.

"Unfortunately, a very small number of scripts are unaccounted for. The NAA apologises for the loss of the scripts."

What the school was told
July 11: The marked papers would be returned by July 15.
July 18: English and maths scripts are in Dewsbury in Yorkshire.
July 18-22: The courier said they were unable to gain entry to the school on July 2, and the next day the school refused delivery.
July 22: All the papers are in Dewsbury.
July 24: The papers are not in Dewsbury. They have been recalled for quality inspection.
July 28: Marks available but need to be input into system.
August 8: Maths A and B have been marked.
August 14: Data for the mental maths will be available over the weekend.
August 28: The English and science papers are at a
warehouse somewhere.
September 3: English and
science papers will be
delivered on September 8.
September 16: Full results are available online (they were not).
September 29: Mrs Doran was told it was highly unlikely the papers were lost.
