Published Date: 14 August 2008
Motorists around Middleton and Elmer have been urged to use tamper-proof screws to stop thieves stealing their vehicle number plates.
A police community support officer in the area, Clive Morge, said a recent increase in the thefts of the registration numbers had been seen.

It could be due to drivers wanting to fool the automatic number plate recognition cameras which ring the t
own, or dodging the soaring fuel prices by driving off from petrol stations without paying.

He states: If your plates are stuck on or screwed in place with basic screws, consider using tamper-proof screws which can only be screwed in place and are difficult to remove, thus making it difficult for the thief."
