Shaw healthcare: Outstanding West Sussex care home staff nominated for national Shaw Star Awards 2022, hosted by Chaser Paul Sinha

Care home staff from West Sussex are among those being recognised at the national Shaw Star Awards 2022 for their outstanding contributions during the past year.

Five workers from the county have been nominated for the awards run by Shaw healthcare, the largest employee-owned healthcare company in the UK.

The ceremony will be held at The Tortworth Court Hotel in Gloucestershire on November 24 and will be hosted by Paul Sinha, best known for his regular appearances on ITV’s The Chase.

Staff have been nominated from Croft Meadow in Steyning, Rotherlea in Petworth and The Martlets in East Preston, which are all operated by Shaw in partnership with West Sussex County Council.

Sarah Hooper, activity champion at Croft Meadow, has been nominated by colleagues and residents’ family members for the Wellness / Happiness / Kindness Award. This award is given to a staff member who has spread joy and happiness as they strive to improve the overall wellbeing of residents.

Jonathan Pearce, a support worker at Rotherlea, has been nominated by staff members and residents’ families for the Care and Compassion Award. This award recognises and celebrates team members who have considered the needs of all and deliver care that reflects their compassion.

Richard Tomkins, senior cook at The Martlets, has been recognised for his outstanding cookery skills with a Culinary Star Award nomination. Jess Geall, home manager, praised his innovative culinary skills and his willingness to go above and beyond to meet the needs of residents.

Ms Geall has been nominated as well, for the Outstanding Management Award, which celebrates those in management roles who demonstrate a high level of expertise combined with exceptional leadership skills.

Molly Maenzanise, regional operations manager for West Sussex, is also nominated, for the Service Support Award, which recognises staff who have had a positive impact upon services, colleagues and residents.

Martin Vanhinsbergh, regional operations director, said: “Shaw healthcare endeavours to put wellness, happiness and kindness at the heart of all they do, and the fact we’ve got five finalists for the national Star Awards here in West Sussex is a testament to the hard work and outstanding dedication to care we have in the region."

The awards celebrate the achievements of outstanding staff across Shaw’s 60 UK facilities, with all winners selected by a panel of Shaw healthcare’s executive team.
