PCSOs praised for good work in Worthing

TWO PCSOs have been praised for using their initiative to improve the areas of Worthing they patrol.

PCSOs Shauna Bowen and Nicola Burstow have worked hard to crack down on issues such as anti-social driving as well as helping with a community project designed for elderly and vulnerable residents.

Today (Wednesday, December 21), Inspector Allan Lowe praised them for their actions within Worthing’s community.

In Offington ward there has been a long-standing issue with anti-social driving in the north car park of Hill Barn Lane.

Due to its quiet location, it has been attracting a lot of young drivers in the evenings and there have been numerous complaints from nearby residents.

To fight this, PCSO Bowen has worked with the council and managed to get a low level barrier installed to close off the car park after hours.

The barrier will be managed by Continental Landscapes, who will close off the car park each night.

Inspector Lowe said: “Thanks to PCSO Bowen’s actions we are hoping that this will dramatically reduce the anti-social driving and congregating in the area after dark.”

PCSO Burstow has been in regular contact with church leader Colin Nichols, of Jubilee Church, in Worthing, over a community initiative to support the elderly and vulnerable living in the area.

As part of the project, PCSO Burstow has been introducing volunteers from the church, all who have been CRB checked, to elderly vulnerable people in the area who may have no family or friends to visit them.

Due to their particular circumstances, some are unable even to leave their properties.

Inspector Lowe said: “This partnership working has been welcomed with enthusiasm by the local elderly community.

“Monthly visits will be made by PCSO Burstow and the volunteers.

“As well as looking after the well-being of the local community this also provides an opportunity for crime prevention advice to be given to vulnerable people.”

Really good to hear the PCSOs are getting good press. I know that Shauna does a lot of good in her area. Well done. When Continental Landscapes go she had better make sure that someone is opening the car park!
