Readers' letters
No good trying to cover up problem
TIM Rose criticises me for referring to failures at the Sir Robert Woodard Academy and formerly Boundstone.
1 commentLimit a failure here
WE have experience of a 20mph speed limit with amber warning lights near schools in Worthing already, having driven through these many times, all the vehicles I have followed have not reduced their speed from 30mph completely ignoring the 20 limit.
In support of ‘20’...
I AM writing to support the introduction of a 20mph speed limit to selected residential areas of the town.
First-class Samaritan
CAN I please send my grateful thanks to the kind-hearted person who picked up the letters I had dropped and not noticed I had done so, and put stamps on them and posted them.
Mange corrections
WHILE our sympathy goes out to G.L. Forrest (Readers’ Letters, February 2) for the problems his dog is suffering with mange, I feel we should correct a few points:
Postcard meeting
WHAT a wonderful venue the Durrington Community Centre is, and on the first Thursday night of every month the Goring stamp and postcard club meet.
Smoother progress
I HAD doubts initially about a default (NB. not blanket) 20mph limit because of reasons already quoted such as other drivers getting impatient and overtaking – well, they do this anyway at 30, 40, 60, 70.
Spy Glass praise
REGARDING three letters on the Your Views page (Worthing Herald, February 2) complaining about the Spy Glass bar on the seafront opposite the pier.
Excuses don’t wash
ON the agenda of the County Local Committee of January 25, it was announced the implementation of the extension to the Controlled Parking Zone had been put back to mid-February.
For a stupid few
I cannot believe that Worthing Hospital has suggested it will remove the hand gel dispensers “in case people try to drink the alcohol” .
2 commentsPrayer ban furore
In the light of the High Court ruling last week banning prayers from formal agendas at council meetings, I feel the need to respond to the hysterical furore shown by some members of the Christian faith to that decision, claiming they are being “attacked by aggressive secularists” and are “victims”.
9 commentsIn a state of Flux
I AM trying to establish a link with members of the various Flux families living along or near the south coast of England where the name is fairly popular.
A lack of tolerance
I GAIN the impression Ian Hart’s column in the Herald is developing into a weekly rant against the underprivileged and less fortunate among us.
5 commentsResidents get a say
I WAS very pleased to see that, at last, popular opinion is being taken into account when setting speed limits in our town’s streets.
2 commentsRoll out more space
THE adoption by Worthing Borough Council of the proposed internal space and storage standards for housing cannot come soon enough. I welcomed the August 2011 draft and, having been approved by councillors at the joint planning committee meeting for Adur and Worthing, look forward to the cabinet recommending implementation.
No complaints here
I HAVE just read with interest the letters in the Herald and could not believe the things that Caroline Fusciardi had written about the food she experienced while she was an in-patient in Worthing Hospital recently.
1 commentAny other greats?
NOW that the new swimming pool is bursting forth from the ground, I have been much amused to see a sign on the site hoardings that proclaims it as “another great project delivered by WBC“.
A poor menu, still?
IT would appear the food at Worthing Hospital has not improved in the last 18 years.
‘Stealth’ developing
THE ASDA development is being performed with the usual stealth adopted between local government and the developer.
Some advice...
MUCH is being said about the proper teaching and learning of English grammar, and spelling, while there are adverse influences at work which counteract this desirable aim.
Why 20mph limit is ‘totally stupid’...
I WOULD like to give my reasons why I think a 20mph speed limit in Worthing’s residential roads is totally stupid.

Muddy marvellous
JUST a short note to say thank you to Worthing Borough Council for its quick response.
Please back Albion
HAVING lived in Lancing for 40 years and having two sons who went through the Lancing Rangers and Thistle youth, playing football, I cannot see what the people who are moaning about Brighton & Hove Albion wanting to build a youth academy and training ground are talking about.
2 commentsQuirkiness needed
I READ with interest your excellent article alerting readers to the series of break-ins to Worthing businesses.
1 commentTwinning message
WORTHING mayor Ann Barlow, as president of Worthing Twinning Association, has sent a New Year message to Monsieur Yannick Moreau, mayor of one of the towns Worthing is twinned with in France.
A failure? No way
I AM amazed at Tim Loughton MP implying that Boundstone Community College was a failure.
A feast of creativity
THERE’S been a definite sense that Worthing has been changing in recent years.
Re National Service
TWO years ago, you were kind enough to publish my letter requesting your readers to contact me if they had any interesting National Service stories which they would like including in my forthcoming book entitled National Service Exploits.
1 commentCar park incident
I WOULD like to appeal to anyone who witnessed an incident in Waitrose car park on Friday, January 20, between 2.15 and 3.05pm. I returned to find substantial damage to the front of my car (black Skoda Octavia vrs) and a letter on my windscreen.
4 commentsWarmly welcomed
I’M one of your “local” (though not, apparently, for the purposes of Worthing Council) rough sleepers, and a beneficiary of the Herald/Gazette’s Winter Warmers’ campaign.
Apologies accepted
I READ your article about the man who apologised to the gentlemen he had assaulted that resulted in him ending up in jail (Worthing Herald, January 12). It showed, for me, there is compassion in this world. I commend the man for apologising and the victim accepting it.
Go for 20mph limit
SURELY it is time we put an end to the killing and injuring of people on the roads of Worthing.
9 comments‘Not satisfactory’
STEYNING Parish Council commissioned a noise survey costing us, the Steyning residents, £1,700, on the impact of a skatepark in the Memorial Playing Field, which they have previously stated is not suitable due to the remoteness of the site.
Dome gets anxious
WITH reference to the various letters appearing in the Herald before Christmas expressing worries over the future of the Dome, it would appear the Worthing Dome Regeneration Trust also has concerns.
1 commentPoor mix of homes
I WRITE in reply to Martin Booker’s letter on January 12, about housing in Worthing.
Food beggars belief
I HAVE recently spent five days as an in-patient in Worthing Hospital.
4 commentsRisk of flooding
ONE of the contentious issues about the proposed housing development in West Durrington is the flood risk to the 700 houses due to be built there.
