A huge thank-you to all concerned

ON April 23, 1979, my dad had a heart attack, three months before his 50th wedding anniversary.

By the time the ambulance got him to hospital, he had died.

My mum was devastated and all arrangements for the celebration had to be cancelled.

On May 11, 2009, I had a heart attack, three months before our 50th wedding anniversary.

By the time the ambulance got me to the hospital, I had been wired up, assessed and medicated; a cardiac team was waiting for me, the clot removed and a stent inserted.

I was home four days later and the plans for our modest celebrations have continued.

This is to say a huge "thank you" to all those involved, from the paramedics, Brian and John, (hope I've got that right, I'm not very good with names at the best of times), to the cardiac team and those on the CCV ward who were so comforting with their explanations and reassurances.

I'll even extend a "thank you" to the two local MPs and include others who gave their time and efforts in keeping our hospital open.

Compared with 30 years ago, we are living in a world of miracles, be grateful for it – I certainly am.
