Abusing the system
WHILE I agree with most of what Peter Bench says in his letter this week, I totally disagree with his attack on the Daily Telegraph.
Yes, not all our politicians have their "snouts in the trough" But many of them have abused the expenses system.
Not only that, but if the MPs had had their way, we would never have known about it.
How can you "accidentally" claim for a mortgage you haven't got?
Let's not even get into moats and floating duck houses.
We, the public, have been taken for a ride by a number (not all) of MPs, who have blatantly abused a system that is rotten to the core.
Those who have been caught should be sacked as MPs immediately (not resign, as Mr Bench suggests).
If you worked for a big company and fiddled your expenses, you would be sacked immediately – why should MPs be any different?
A large number of some of these "mistakes" would also appear to be fraudulent, so I hope that the police will be taking action, and offenders brought to justice and prosecuted.
Again, the government targets benefit-fraud, and threatens offenders with prosecution, so the same rules should apply to those who, let's face it – actually make the rules.
Or is it one rule for them, and one rule for us?
Was there not a case of a senior member of the police in this area who was accused of theft who was never prosecuted?
