Cost of car parking takes some beating

THE ARROGANCE of NCP in their attitude towards, and treatment of, the motorists of Worthing, simply beggars belief (and, as a non-driver, I have no personal axe to grind here).

The report in the Herald reveals the massive increase in parking charges at the Teville Gate car park.

Read the report about the increased car parking charges here.

Yet an NCP spokeswoman is quoted saying that "the new daily rate was still well below market standards".

As the Herald's letters page attests every week, those "market standards" in Worthing are scandalously high.

Who sets those standards? NCP themselves.

For hundreds of years in this country we have followed the legal principle of "innocent until proven guilty".

Yet the usual response from NCP when faced with protests about parking tickets is to state that "a motorist can always appeal if he/she feels the parking ticket is not justified".

In other words, "guilty until proven innocent".

It really takes some nerve to overturn hundreds of years of legal precedent in that way.
