Dealing with the killer fox
HAVING recently witnessed a fox killing my daughter's guinea pigs in broad daylight in our back garden, I feel that areas in Worthing are now becoming overrun with "town foxes".
I live in the Tarring area and the recent spate of attacks is endles.
Just a couple of incidents include friends of my daughters having to collect up the remains of the bodies of their chickens following a fox attack.
My wife even witnessed a fox running down the middle of Orchard Avenue with our friend's rabbit hanging out of its mouth after killing all the other animals in the run.
Maybe "epidemic" is too strong a word, but it has now got to the stage where somebody, i.e., the the council, MUST do something.
Can they not work with pest control companies to stop the fox population spiralling out of control?
I don't mean the mindless bludgeoning of fox cubs, but a humane way of culling or even returning them to their natural environment.
However, I do understand that this natural environment is disappearing fast.
It is getting to the stage now where parents will discourage their children from owning particularly vulnerable pets, which is such a shame, as children can learn so much from looking after animals.
I am sure that there are many people in the Tarring area who enjoy seeing foxes playing in their gardens.
However, they have obviously not had the experience of explaining to small children exactly what has happened to pets that they loved.
If anyone from the council or even local pest control companies has any ideas how to deal with this increasing problem, please could you contact me.
