Food beggars belief
I HAVE recently spent five days as an in-patient in Worthing Hospital.
After my operation I was transferred to a ward and offered food, a term I use loosely; I attended boarding school so have experience of disgusting food, but the stuff they dish up in Worthing hospital beggars belief. It was totally inedible, and in desperation I asked for an angel delight one evening, thinking this would be light and edible – how wrong can you be?
I practically had to cut it with a knife. It was shocking, and to top it all, nobody cares if you eat or not, it is put down in front of you, and 20 minutes later the tray is taken away, regardless of whether you have eaten or not.
I had to get family to bring some food for me to eat, which was fine, but what happens to the poor people who maybe do not have relatives? The food is truly inedible. Something needs to be done about it, after all, people are in hospital with the hope of a recovery.

Friday, February 3, 2012 at 09:24 AMI think that a lot of the problems are made worse by the sometimes ridiculous health and safety laws - wards are no longer allowed have their own toaster and they don't seem to have crockery apart from cups. At the time of writing this, my husband is in hospital and I was told I could bring him some tinned peaches - he's had a op on his tummy so can't manage much. The peaches had to be mashed but they don't have a bowl, nor anything to mash them with! I asked him why he didn't have soup and he said it was all 'fancy' choices - whatever happened to good old fashioned tomato soup? On a plus side, the care he's received has been splendid - no complaints there.

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 08:58 AMIts an old story which continues to plague Worthing Hospital, the reason, all of the food is prep'd at the same time, then loaded into waiting, heated stack trolleys, now if your stack trolley is delivered within a few mins of it leaving the kitchen then you will probably receive a decent meal, however, becuase they have so few staff to deliver the trolley's to the wards, some of these heated trolleys sit around for 20, 30 or 40 mins before being delivered, plenty of time to overcook in these heated contraptions, so, the closer to the kitchen your ward is the more likely you will get a half decent meal, the further away the worse. I also overheard a story that these heated trolleys keep the food so hot, that when they were originally delivered to the hospital for use they had an issue with the soup, it use to be put into large plastic contains to be delivered around the wards, fine for un heated transport, but when the new heated trolleys were used they had multiple instances of leakage as the plastic containers for the soup melted inside the trolleys!!!

Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 01:59 PMThe only time I've been in Worthing Hospital, I was nil by mouth so I can't really comment on the food. But didn't I see a story recently about them having a very high spend per patient on food?
