For a stupid few
I cannot believe that Worthing Hospital has suggested it will remove the hand gel dispensers “in case people try to drink the alcohol” .
What is more important; hundreds of people (hopefully) using the gel to clean their hands as they pass, and the prevention of infection being brought in (and also taken out – I use the dispensers on the way out, too), or the health of the few idiots who may decide that an alcohol gel fix is just what they need?
For goodness sake, shouldn’t we be putting the needs of the many before the needs of the stupid few?

Friday, February 17, 2012 at 05:34 PMI think the point of the original story was more that they were trying to get across the necessity of hand washing at point of contact although this was sensationalized a little by the journalist, but you are of course quite right. The alcohol story is an urban legend which has been doing the rounds for some time now. There is absolutely no truth in it, and that gel tastes disgusting by the way- you really need to mix it with lime juice and tonic water with an olive on a stick.
