Not using the logical layout

THE Highways Department had a perfect opportunity to restore the A259 at Brooklands to its former layout following the recent resurfacing.

They obviously realised that they have made a mistake with the westbound carriageway and restored that back to the original and logical layout.

Unfortunately, they didn't use the opportunity to restore the eastbound carriageway to its logical layout and have marked the road in such a way as to allow it to expand to a dual-carriageway, then restrict it to a single-carriageway, then back to a dual-carriageway.

Prior to the marking, the traffic used both lanes and managed generally very well. Following the re-introduction of the silly lines, the traffic backed-up at least 3/4 of a mile back to Windsor Road.

I would like to urge everyone who uses this section of road to email their objection to this ridiculous layout to Highways.Southern@westsussex.gov.uk and to their local MP and to Tim Loughton as he is the MP for East Worthing, and maybe the common people can restore some normality.

In the interim, I would urge motorists to ignore this layout, taking care obviously, and queue using two lanes to the traffic lights.

Mr N. Mardon
