Rude man was no Christian...

AS Christmas approaches, it may be worth responding to Jennifer Bradley (letters, November 27), who had an unpleasant experience with a "Christian" recently.

What this person said was rude, callous and inexcusable.

It also sounds far more likely that he was an insensitive idiot out to offend someone, rather than the churchgoer he purported to be.

While Christians would, of course, prefer others to go to church every Sunday, first of all we all have days off occasionally; secondly, attendance should be willing, so scaring someone so directly into attending is hardly constructive; and thirdly, mockery as a form of evangelism is diametrically opposed to any of the "approved" methods.

To cap it all, if this person were such a fundamentalist (horribly misused word), then they would hardly be pushing Santa as the centre of the Christmas celebrations.

Christians are not killjoys and most will be hoping for a visit from Father Christmas this year.

All I can suggest is, that the person referred to in the letter was either the worst form of hypocrite – they get everywhere these days – or someone with an anti-God agenda trying to do his bit for "de-vangelism".
