Something must be done about the foxes
IT is good to know that someone else has the courage to speak up about the fox problem (letter to you last week).
Urban foxes are, quite simply, vermin.
For years now we have had these wretched creatures (many of them in an unhappy, scruffy and mangy condition) – and all of them are a wretched nuisance in the garden.
They drop their horrid faeces in the middle of paths, dig holes in the lawn in search of worms and the young ones, in particular, burrow under plants in the borders and scatter my clumps of herbaceous plants – especially bearded irises – completely wrecking them.
It is impossible to get the council to take any interest in this problem.
I don't know whether this is because they fear bricks through their windows thrown by sentimental so-called animal lovers, or quite simply a lazy determination not to be bothered to start on the long, long and fiddly task of exterminating the creatures.
There is no doubt it can be done by experienced operatives.
There is also no doubt at all that the great majority of us want them exterminated as humanely as possible, so I am moved to ask: what price democracy?
The councillors are there to serve our wishes.
