Ten good reasons NOT to build a beach playground
TEN Reasons why Major Tom Wye's idea of a beach playground east of the water garden, off West Parade, Worthing (Herald, August 20), is NOT a good idea.
Read the story about Tom Wye's support for the playground here.
1. This is mainly a retirement area with few children living nearby.
2. The concreted area east of the beach bridge floods every winter under at least a foot of water.
3. Small children clambering over wet and slippery rocks sounds like a recipe for disaster.
4. Dangerous to unaccompanied children who may fall down the bridge
steps or into the sea.
5. Area has suffered from vandalism for some years.
6. Teenagers congregate there on summer evenings.
7. The play area will be unusable during the winter as there is no shelter from the elements.
8. Council tax payers will foot the repair and upkeep bills.
9. Area is immediately adjacent to large coach parking area – as many as
23 during the summer.
10. The beach itself is a children's playground.
With respect, Major Tom Wye does NOT live in the area – I do.
