That wood is quality stuff
WENDY Knight, the council's communications manager, said: "The wood is worthless as it is.
"It is completely water and sand-logged and I understand it's unusable in its current state as it would warp and bend.
"It's quicker and better for the environment to chip it on site, as it cuts down on lorry-loads."
No, no, no, Wendy. I'm afraid someone's talking rubbish.
This timber is prime slow grown northern Swedish redwood, not yer chain store fast grown whitewood.
It is far superior. Look out for the stamps on the end of the larger sections of timber: "SCA"
This timber is produced for quality work and it does not matter that it has accumulated sand, etc, as the outer layer is removed when it is machined again to a smooth and straight finish to produce joinery, etc.
I think you will find the inner core is quite dry.
In fact, I know it is!
When I phoned the various companies to enquire about purchasing some of the larger timbers, I was told: "It's out of our hands".
Aaaargh!
It's a crying shame that they are going to burn it.
Wasn't the idea to salvage some money from it?
