Unfair to fine mistake

LAST Thursday, January 21, I drove my mother to Worthing Medical Group's Shelley Road practice for an important appointment.

I am my mother's carer. She cannot live alone, is frail and able to walk only very short distances with the aid of a stick and my support.

I parked on the yellow line outside the practice, as the car park is small and it's hard to manoeuvre.

I put the disabled badge and time of arrival disc (3.45 pm) on top of the dashboard (you are allowed one hour on a yellow line) and helped my mother into the practice.

We were in the practice for 25 minutes and on arriving back at the car we found a parking fine for 35 on the windscreen, put there just after 4pm.

Initially, I was baffled; I don't take my mother out much as she prefers to be home so I don't use the disabled badge often, but I had mistakenly put the badge upside down - hence the fine.

It was a genuine mistake and is the first parking fine I have ever had after driving for 40 years.

I know you can dispute the fine, which I have now paid (complaining politely!) but, frankly, I haven't the time nor energy.
