A PREGNANCY and counselling centre received praise from the mayor of Worthing for its work in the community.

Councillor Ann Barlow visited a reception at the Acorn Centre in Stanford Square, Worthing, to meet staff and learn more about the work they do.

Acorn, which is one of the mayor’s charities this year, offers advice and support to families with issues such as unexpected pregnancies, abortions and pregnancy loss.

The event, which attracted around 50 people, was attended by representatives of GPs, midwives and local churches, as well as by past and present volunteers.

Displays in the centre and the function room highlighted Acorn’s work, and guests were given a demonstration of the “Lifeline Game” which is used in school lessons to explain the development of a baby in the womb.

The mayor said she was proud to support the work of Acorn, and the volunteers who work there.

Acorn’s chairman, Dr Rob Ferguson, said: “It is a privilege to be one of the mayor’s charities for this year, and we are delighted that she has been able to come along and see more of what we do today.”
