Martin Howland was born in Brighouse, West Yorkshire in 1976. His early training was at the Elwyn school of ballet at the age of 6 and after attending the Royal Ballet School's summer course aged 10 he was invited back to final auditions and was accepted.

At the age of 11, Martin joined the RBS at White Lodge, Richmond and continued at the RBS till graduation.

Martin's first professional contract was in Dusseldorf under the tutelage of Heinz Spoerli before coming back to England to dance as a soloist for Harold King's City Ballet of London company for several seasons.

His next contract was a national tour of Phantom of the Opera, playing the featured dancing role of the slavemaster, performing for lengthy periods in Manchester, Southhampton and Bradford, which was of course special as it was as close to home as he has ever performed.

Shortly afterwards Martin was offered a contract with K-ballet in Japan, performing as a soloist in ballets such as Giselle, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and Raymonda, eventually becoming Principal Dancer.

After arriving back home to the England, Vienna Festival Ballet engaged him as principal for 2 lengthy tours of the UK and Switzerland.

Last year Martin was invited over to work as a guest principal dancer for Cape Town City Ballet performing as the Prince and Bluebird in Sleeping Beauty and also performing in companies 'queen at the ballet' performed to tracks written by Queen.

Most recently Martin has been teaching and training the boys from the Billy Elliot musical, among teaching and coaching in various schools throughout England

He is once again happy to be back on stage, and performing.
