I SUPPOSE it's inevitable that I should be watching 'It's Not Easy Being Green' currently in its third season being shown on BBC2.
The programme has morphed from being focused on Dick Strawbridge's (him of the preposterously big moustache) attempts to start a green lifestyle in Cornwall to more of a magazine format looking at various lifestyle issues, giving hints and tips on how the viewer can improve their "green-ness".

There is no doubt that Dick Strawbridge is the kind of character that can carry off this kind of programme and he manages to steer clear of the preachy style that gives many environmentalists a bad name.

This is a fine line to tread, since many people giving hints and tips about green lifestyles can come over all "hair-shirt" or be very patronising.

In the last episode, Toby Sawday the co-presenter strayed into this area when he spoke to a chap who was building an eco-friendly holiday home.

It was tempting, though, as there were so many issues that had been either ignored or overlooked during the construction of the property.

Even Dick Strawbridge conceded that it was a 'light green' holiday home rather than the real McCoy.

A feature of the show that is interesting is the quizzing of a celebrity as to how green they are.

Considering that most celebrities like to use their wealth to buy the finer things in life it is not surprising that most need the resources of several planets to maintain their lifestyle.

This week, Jilly Goolden was revealed to need 3.14 planets after admitting to taking lots of flights and buying a new mobile phone!

Another running feature is the greening of a town house.

I was most interested in the plans to grow vegetables in such an uninviting garden, especially how ambitious they were planning to be!

If you haven't watched it yet, 'It's Not Easy Being Green' is transmitted on Wednesdays at 8pm or you can catch up on the BBC iPlayer.
