A restrauteur has been fined thousands of pounds for illegally selling alcohol.
Bahram Khan, who runs Pike Restaurant in Pelham Arcade, Hastings, denied the charge at Hastings Magistrates Court on Tuesday, but magistrates found him guilty of 'exposing alcohol for sale without the authorisation of a premises licence'.
The court heard that smoke free enforcement officers from Hastings Borough Council had visited the restaurant in July last year as part of a routine inspection.
They found beer on tap and bottles of wine for sale. An investigation was launched and it came to light that Mr Khan did not hold the relevant licences.
Mr Khan was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay £822 in costs. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15, making a total of £10,837.
