Worthing beach's mystery object – double or right click on images for full screen in Windows Media Viewer
THERE was drama on Worthing beach when a suspected Second World War mine was discovered.
The area around Worthing Lido was sealed off, and marker buoys placed out to sea to ward off onlookers.
Click on the green play button to see video of the mystery item being pulled out of the sand and an interview with Royal Navy bomb disposal expert chief petty officer "Sid" Lawrence.
Once the "mine" was dug up it turned out to be part of a concrete mooring buoy.
