SHOREHAM lifeboat managed to pull clear a yacht stranded on a beach and being pounded by gale-force winds.

The offshore lifeboat was launched at 10.30pm on Friday, July 4, to recover the 18ft Zora, which had been blown on to the beach off Ferry Road, Shoreham Beach, that afternoon.

It was left stranded on the previous tide after Shoreham inshore lifeboat crew had decided they would attempt to refloat the vessel on the next high tide, due around midnight.

With the tow-line in place, the lifeboat hauled the stricken yacht through a two-metre breaking surf, waiting for enough water to enable her to pull it clear of the beach.

At 11.50pm, the yacht was finally dragged off the shoreline.
