MORE than 40 police officers stormed a block of flats in Worthing to carry out a series of drugs raids yesterday (Wednesday, April 16).
The huge scale of the drugs swoop, which involved the police helicopter, specialist drugs officers from across the county
and immigration services, was described by police as "unprecedented in
recent times".

The teams of officers met at West Worthing railway station before heading to Victoria Court, a six-storey block of flats in Clifton Road.

At just after 12.30pm, the teams surrounded the building before bursting in and forcing their way into three flats – all on different floors.

Neighbours and onlookers watched in amazement at the police activity,
described as "mayhem".

Officers then began to emerge from the building, bringing with them a middle-aged woman in handcuffs.

The raids were part of Operation Admiral and were based on "significant
local intelligence", said police.

Police seized a substantial quantity of Class A drugs and made one arrest.
