AN Adur gymnastics club is celebrating after a string of competition successes in the last three months.
Wickers Gymnastics Club, based in Lancing Business Park, got the competition season off to a good start this year with Ollie Wildman taking first place for the new men's artistic squad at Pegasus Gymnastics Club in Maidstone.

The club also celebrated its first Sussex Champions at Intermediate and Novice levels.

Katy Hodgson, club director, said "All the coaches are extremely proud of the gymnasts and the club – gymnasts, coaches, volunteers and parents have worked really hard to achieve these results and having a new home has certainly spurred us on to achieve bigger and better things."

Grateful

The club was established in 1988 and had several temporary homes in Shoreham and Southwick before September ,2008, when Adur council planners granted permission for a unit on the Lancing Business Park to be converted into a gym.

It is now the only permanent gymnastics facility in the Adur District.

"We are very grateful to Adur District Council for granting us change of use on the building in order that we can continue to develop gymnastics at both the grassroots and competitive levels," said Katy.

"Having a permanent home has certainly made a difference to the gymnasts' training time in that it has in the past been disrupted by having to put the equipment away.

"Now that we don't have to do that, it ensure the gymnasts train for their full hours and it has paid dividends, as can be seen by the results we have achieved so far this year, our most successful competitive season."
