A SCHOOLGIRL from Lancing has reached the semi-finals of a national talent contest.
Thirteen-year-old Jessica Willard will compete in the semi-final of the under-18 category of Idol 2008 at Hove Town Hall on Monday, September 29.

The Boundstone Community College pupil will have to write her own song and compose her own backing track for the competition.

Jessica Willard told the Herald: "I'm really excited, but I'm really nervous as well.

"I've been doing a lot of practice with my singing teacher and we're writing a song together."

As well as singing pop music in the competition, Jessica is a member of Brighton Festival Youth Choir.

Mum Zoe said: "I'm very proud – there are just so many opportunities open to her at the moment."

If Jessica wins her semi-final, she will go through to the national grand final, to be held at Portsmouth's Guildhall on Saturday, November 29.

If she were to win the final, Jessica would get the chance to record her very own album.
