THREE people from Worthing and Lancing remain in hospital after a horror crash at Littlehampton on Saturday morning (February 9).
The most seriously injured casualty, pedestrian Mark Phelps, 42, from Worthing, is in a serious but stable condition in Southampton General Hospital, where he is being treated in the intensive care unit for multiple head, back and leg injuries, inclu
ding bleeding on the brain.
Another pedestrian, Heidi Cheesman, of Lancing, is still in St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, having suffered concussion and leg injuries. Her six-year-old son Jack suffered a fractured femur and has now been allowed home.
Motorcyclist Fred Player, 57, from Worthing, whose bike was in collision with a car at the junction of Beach Road and Irvine Road, remains in the high dependency unit of Worthing Hospital with serious leg injuries.
After the crash, his motorcycle is believed to have ran out of control into the pedestrians walking along Irvine Road, and demolished a front garden wall.
Car driver Graham Hart, 24, of Beacon Way, Littlehampton, was unhurt.
He appeared before Worthing magistrates on Monday morning charged with dangerous driving, three counts of assault causing grievous bodily harm and another of assault causing actual bodily harm.
He did not enter a plea and was initially remanded in custody, but the following day was granted bail, after an appeal hearing at Chichester Crown Court.
