RUNNERS from Worthing Harriers' beginners group are facing their first real race at the annual St Barnabas fun run on Sunday, May 11.
Many of the group started running only in January and have been attending the Harriers' training sessions every Monday night, gradually building up their fitness and running experience to take on the challenge of the five-kilometre seafront course.

The group are busy practising the course, which runs from Worthing Lido to George V Avenue and back.

The fun run, again sponsored by Michael Jones Estate and Lettings Agents, will start at 4pm. Splash FM will be there and there will be a fancy dress competition and medals for all participants.

Coaches and more experienced runners from Worthing Harriers will also be participating and marshalling on the day.

Leading coach Maureen Stephens said: "I am really proud of the new runners and how far they have progressed in such a short time.

"We are looking forward to the St Barnabas fun run and would encourage anyone to get their trainers on and have a go.

"It doesn't matter whether you run or walk – it's just a good, fun afternoon raising money for a great local cause and improving your fitness at the same time."

Fun run entry costs £8 per adult and £4 per child under 12 years if runners sign up before the day, or £10 and £5 on the day. To register and pay online, people should visit www.stbh.org.uk or contact the events team on 01903 871817.
