A ROLLERCOASTER - or rather motorbike - ride of rock, The Dead Ringer From Hell rode into Worthing on July 11 and delivered a storming extravaganza.
Described as the Meat Loaf Rock Opera, it's more inspired by the music of Meat Loaf than the real Meat Loaf story. Having said that, Hollis, AKA The Ringer, delivered a show with a great storyline that was tremendous fun and absolutely spot-on musica
lly.

A little bit cheesy, but I think deliberately so, the show sought audience participation - and certainly got it at the Pavilion Theatre, with one group being particularly vocal throughout.

Hollis gave us the very best of Meat Loaf and did it with so much passion, it was easy to forget this was not the real thing.

From Dead Ringer for Love and You Took the Words Right Out of my Mouth to Heaven Can Wait and Two Out of Three Ain't Bad, it was a faultless performance, topped only (or so we thought) by the closing number, Bat Out of Hell, in its entirety.

Feeling pretty sure that was it, I was absolutely delighted to find them return to perform Paradise by the Dashboard Light.

What a way to go! Those who didn't stay to meet the Ringer and get his autograph rocked right out of the Pavilion with the music still ringing in their ears and the words still hanging on their lips.

The band, the Wolf Pack, played their part and the Dead Bettys were far more than backing singers, with the girls having a couple of their own numbers and several solo spots.

A new addition this year is the Elvis tribute, complete with feather headdresses for Viva Las Vegas, and the Pink Floyd number, which worked surprisingly well in the middle of the Meat Loaf tracks.

All in all, it was a crazy rock variety show that had us all revved up and knowing which place to go - straight to the gig list to find the next opportunity to see it all again.
