Time: 10am – noon
Location: Theatre Royal Brighton
Theatre Royal are looking for perfect Toto for the Christmas production of The Wizard of Oz. Three dogs are needed to share the role and they will take it in turn to b
e Toto throughout the four and a half week run.
What are they looking for?
Ideally, Toto should be a Terrier breed (in the famous MGM film they used a Cairn Terrier). However, they welcome all dogs to audition as they are an equal opportunity organisation.
In the story, Toto was a farm dog and therefore the successful dogs should be a little bit scruffy in appearance with a playful character. The dog can be of any colour and previous stage experience is not necessary.
The successful dogs must be:
• Good around people
• Comfortable being handled and picked up by the actress playing Dorothy
• Able to fit inside Miss Gultch's basket (this will be a part of the audition)
The dogs will be judged by Kevin Wood (chief executive of First Family Entertainment), Laura Taylor (marketing manager) and Anne Cable (office manager and dog lover).
All dogs that wish to audition should go to Theatre Royal Brighton and take their owners along with them for 10am on the morning of Saturday, October 11.
The dog and owner will attend the later stages of the rehearsals. Once the show opens, the successful owners should bring their dog to the theatre and then stay backstage to look after the dog between appearing on stage.
Owners will receive two complimentary tickets for opening night of the show and their name and dog's name will appear in the programme.
