DAY OUT: Littlehampton Regatta

AN AFTERNOON of water-based fun and frolics is promised by Littlehampton Regatta on Saturday, June 13.

Organised by Littlehampton Town Council and Littlehampton Harbour Board, the event hopes to kick off the summer by displaying all the joys of living by the River Arun.

The fun will start at noon and activities will be based at various points along the river, with Pier Road being at the centre of the festivities, and will finish at 4.30pm with a breathtaking display by the Coastguard search and rescue helicopter.

Crowds will also be looking up between 1.30pm and 2.30pm at a special fly-past by a light aircraft, organised by Arun District Council to celebrate the town retaining its prestigious Blue Flag award, which marks Littlehampton as one of Europe's cleanest, safest beaches.

Historic Thames barge, Alice will be open for public tours on Saturday, she will also take bookings for a trip out of the harbour on Sunday, June 14.

There will be exhilarating rib rides out to sea, extreme kayaking demonstrations and dinghy racing, and River Cruises will be offering discounted leisurely cruises up the river.

At the Oyster Pond, there will be the chance to walk on water, with the Waterwalkerz Zorb balls, and a climbing wall, near Harbour Park, will whet the appetites of the adventure-hungry.

For smaller children, there will be face painting outside the Harbour Board and a crabbing competition, plus entertainment from stilt walkers and puppet shows.

Pier Road, between its junction with Bayford Road and the Harbour Office, will be closed from 8.30am until 6pm.
