MUSICAL: The Broadway Show! At Southwick Barn
AS part of its 10th anniversary season, Music Theatre 2000 is presenting The Broadway Show! tomorrow (Friday, July 30), Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, August 1 at the Barn Theatre in Southwick in support of Martlets Hospice in Hove.
Simon Gray, who will conduct the show from the piano, said: "The Broadway Show! is a celebration of great Broadway shows of the past 25 years and features songs and choruses from recent, current and future productions including Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Sister Act – The Musical, Shrek – The Musical and the ever-popular Les Miserables.
"Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid and The Lion King are all popular Disney animated films which have been transferred to the stage in recent years.
"Another great animated film which has been turned into a stage show is Shrek.
This has already had a Broadway run and US tour and is due to arrive in the West End next year.
"Come and hear some of the songs in Southwick first!
"Sister Act – The Musical is based on the film starring Whoopi Goldberg and is currently enjoying a very successful London run and transfers to Broadway next year.
"Les Misrables has been running in London for 25 years. On Broadway the show ran for 16 years from 1987-2003."
A cast of 25 of some of the best local performers has been assembled for the show which is staged by Nathan Potter, Debbie Spellman, Vickie Hampson and Simon Gray.
Performances are on tomorrow and Saturday at 7.30pm and Sunday at 5.30pm (including a one-hour picnic interval).
