West Sussex youngsters invited to join RSPB’s WildPix competition

PART of the British Wildlife Photography Awards, the RSPB Wildpix competition is looking for youngsters across West Sussex to enter the national competition, which for the first time ever has teamed up with the British Wildlife Photography Awards.

Don Fuller, RSPB south east youth officer said: “Photography is a great way to get kids interested in nature and wildlife. When you look at things through a lens it really focuses the eye and you see things in a totally different light.

“West Sussex has some wonderful countryside and coastline but even if you live in the city and have a park or river nearby you can see all sorts of wildlife. So we hope lost of youngsters will get snapping and send us their pictures of Berkshire.”

The competition is open to all young people across two age categories: under 12s and 12 to 18year olds.

Subject matter can cover anything from marine life and animal behaviour to creepy crawlies and urban wildlife.

The competition winners will get some fantastic cash prizes – £300 in the under 12s category and £500 for 12-18s. Their work will be displayed in the BWPA book and the winning shots will also appear in an exhibition that will tour UK galleries.

The two winners will also be invited to the BWPA award ceremony in London in September.

The awards are open from now until 12 May 2012.
