FOOD REVIEW: The Hungry Hut, Newland Road, Worthing

Whether you’re just passing the sandwich bar, or need lunch delivered to your workplace, The Hungry Hut offers a good value selection of sandwiches, paninis and jacket potatoes.
Owner Liz Cash, who has been a chef since she was 16, drove past the premises last summer and saw the lease was available. She opened the sandwich bar 18 weeks ago, and has been making lunches for a range of customers ever since.
The Herald and Gazette team placed an order to be delivered to our office on Friday lunchtime.
We all perused the menu before calling Liz to place our order.
Of the vast number of fillings we could have had, between us we ordered two chicken, mozzarella and tomato paninis, a tuna mayo and cucumber roll, two roast beef sandwiches, a jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw and one brie, grape and cranberry panini.
Reporter Alex Therrien said he was extremely pleased with the taste of his beef and horseradish sandwich, considering the reasonable cost of £2.70.
He said the beef was tender and flavoursome – qualities which are rare in sandwiches of comparable cost – and the bread was soft and fresh. Reporter Catrin Shi said her brie, grape and cranberry panini was very tasty, with generous helpings of all three fillings, but not too overwhelming.
Website content editor Sarah Dale and content editor Nicola Caines each had a chicken, mozzarella and tomato panini, which were cooked well, not too over-toasted, with fresh fillings.
Senior reporter Alex Jenkin’s jacket potato with cheese came with a side serving of coleslaw and a separate salad. She said the portion was very generous, and the salad was lovely with crisp salad leaves, peppers and red onion. The separate coleslaw was a nice addition, as Alex could choose how much she wanted on her potato.
We also tried a selection of cakes, included fairy cakes with a chocolate frosting and chocolate brownies. The brownies were very moist and not too rich, while the fairy cakes were light and tasty.
Overall, The Hungry Hut offers well-priced satisfying lunches and the delivery service provides real convenience for businesses.
The paninis and jacket potato arrived nicely hot, having been wrapped in foil to keep the heat in, and the bread for the sandwiches was lovely and fresh.
Other varieties of cakes and confectionary are also sold, along with fruit and herbal teas, fresh bean coffee, hot pies and sausage rolls.
