POLICE closed an eastbound lane of the A27 after a van caught fire this morning (October 20).

Firefighters were called just after 9.30am to the transit flatbed vehicle near the Coach and Horses pub, in Patching.

They left the scene at 10am. Despite them extinguishing the flames, a spokeswoman from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said the van was ‘60-per-cent destroyed’ by the fire.

The van has since been removed and the lane reopened.
