THE Sir Robert Woodard Academy will be holding a basketball recruitment event next month, as it is one of only 12 accredited schools in the country for the sport.

This is an opportunity to gain experience in high-quality basketball coaching and competition.

On Monday, March 2, from 5pm to 6.30pm, the academy will be asking students aged 16 and 17 to apply for a sixth form place.

The academy provides a professional and structured programme of coaching.

Over two years, the academy aims to teach its student athletes how to play and understand a variety of systems that will allow them to succeed wherever they go in the future – like Europe, North America or the UK.

All team members are given a full basketball kit for walking around the school campus, plus training and game gear. The academy can also offer a bursary.

In 2015/16, the team is aiming to visit the US to take part in a high school tournament.

To be a part of this experience, students must apply stating that they are interested in the sixth form basketball academy. All places are subject to try-outs.
