TEMPERS flared as councillors agreed to use their powers to acquire a strip of land considered integral to the proposed Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club training ground development in Lancing.
The decision to agree the compulsory purchase order of Mash Barn Lane was made at the joint strategic committee meeting of Adur and Worthing councils, held at the Civic Centre, in Ham Road, Shoreham, on Tuesday.
The land, which is not owned by anyone, would offer vehicle access to the proposed training ground development, should Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club’s planning application ultimately be approved.
But the decision, along with councillors’ claims it was in the “public interest”, led to a heated response from some residents who live near Mash Barn lane.
