Big screen for Worthing shoppers to keep up with the games

A BIG-SCREEN television has been put up in South Street Square for busy shoppers to enjoy the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The screen was put up by the Worthing Town Centre Initiative, and will display all the games throughout the day, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies.

However, Sharon Clarke, Worthing town centre manager, said the screen cannot stay on during the evenings as this would require security, and, in turn, incur extra costs.

She said: “A lot of the businesses and clubs have got screens, and we do not want to discourage people from
using them.

“From our point of view we want to encourage people into the bars, pubs and clubs.

“It’s really for shoppers, so they can take time out of their busy day to sit back and enjoy the Olympics.”
