The body of a man found by dog walkers on Shoreham beach last week has been identified as a 44-year-old from Horley.

Sussex Police said the man has been formally identified as Ben Edwards, 44, of Spiers Way, Horley in Surrey.

Dog walkers alerted the emergency services around 8am last Friday (December 4), and police and the coastguard were on the scene near The Burrells almost immediately.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “The body has been formally identified as that of Ben Edwards, 44, of Spiers Way, Horley.

“A postmortem has been held and an inquest has been formally opened and adjourned to a date yet to be set.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and there is no police involvement.

“The Coroners Officer will be continuing enquiries.”

The section of the beach was closed off throughout the morning while an investigation took place.
