A MONTHLY boutique set up by two Worthing mums has got off to a flying start – and has marked the occasion with a donation to charity.

Bartie’s Boutique was set up by Jess Estcourt and Rachel Gilmour in September last year, after the pair discovered many other mums were creating their own products, but had no outlet to sell them.

Jess and Rachel set about establishing a not-for-profit boutique, which sells high-quality produce and donates all profit to charity.

Now, the boutique has gone from a sporadic appearance at the St Paul’s Centre in Chapel Road, Worthing, to a monthly fixture, filling all of the available stalls every month with local craftsmen and traders.

To mark six successful months, the boutique donated the £500 profit it has made since its founding to Breast Cancer Research UK.

Rachel, 39, of Westcourt Road, said: “Jess and I are so happy with the way the boutique has come on, and with the help of the boutiquers, we have been able to donate money to charity as well. People have started coming to us every month and they’re not just looking, they’re buying. Originally, Jess and I thought about calling in people from Brighton to help us fill stalls, but I’m so glad we didn’t now. The boutique is testament to all the fantastic original products Worthing can offer. We hope to continue with this great start and raise even more money for charity in the coming months.”

The boutique is also branching out in the following months, by holding three “arty” boutiques to run in line with the Worthing Open Houses event in June and July.

Rachel said: “For the three weekends of the event we will be holding boutiques for local artists to exhibit and sell their work. For Father’s Day we are also holding a food and drink festival, showcasing local produce and ales. It’s a bit of a twist on what we’re doing already, and, hopefully, people will enjoy the events as much as they do our monthly boutique.”
