A WOMAN was cut free from an ambulance following a collision in Brighton Road, Lancing this morning, according to West Sussex Fire and Rescue service.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said that a member of staff was mechanically trapped in the back of the ambulance.

The woman is believed to have sustained a neck or back injury, according to an eye witness.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services were called to a report that a private ambulance had hit a fence in Brighton Road, near Brooklands Pleasure Park at 10.40am on Wednesday.

“The driver was freed from the vehicle by firefighters and taken to Worthing Hospital.

“The eastbound lane of Brighton Road is currently closed.”

South East Coast Ambulance (SECAmb) later arrived on the scene. The ambulance involved in the colision was private and does not belong to SECAmb.
