Calendar project raises nearly £1,300

The money was the result of calendar sales following a year-long monthly photo competition, launched by Findon Valley Residents’ Association in January last year.

Alex Clouter, vice-chairman of the association, said: “This was our first-ever photo competition and we were keen to have a special Findon Valley calendar to reflect the natural beauty of where we live.

“The idea came from within our committee and it was great that Jacobs Steel made it happen for us. A big thanks to our local Post Office in King’s Parade, who kindly offered their premises as a point of purchase, and to the local churches, allowing us to be present at their Sunday coffee mornings to promote the calendars to their parishioners.”

Jacobs Steel Estate Agents sponsored the competition by providing prizes to each monthly winner and funding the production of the 2017 Findon Valley calendar, featuring all 12 winning photos.

It was agreed the money generated from sales over the winter period would be donated to the hospice and a total o £1,297.22 was raised.

Derek Steel, director of Jacobs Steel, said: “We enjoyed being involved on this competition, with us helping Alex and Rene Hardman in the FVRA with the monthly judging and prize handovers.

“A superb full-colour calendar resulted from this and an amazing amount of money raised for the hospice to help them care for the 300 children and young adults with progressive life-shortening conditions.”

Caroline Roberts-Quigley, community fundraiser at Chestnut Tree House, said: “A heartfelt thanks to Alex, Derek and everyone else involved in the way they voluntarily worked hard to raise so much money.

“Together they made an incredible effort in the competition throughout 2016, the design and production of the calendar and co-ordinating all the sales. Your help is truly appreciated.”

Based on the success of this photo competition, the association is looking at a new initiative during this year to involve the Findon Valley community in producing a 2018 calendar.
