THE old adage “third time lucky” appears to be true in the case of the empty building on Beach Green, Lancing.

The large structure, described by residents as an “eyesore” and a “blot on the landscape”, has finally sold at auction for less than 60 per cent of its original guide price.

Richard Payne, the auctioneer from agents Parsons Son & Basley confirmed the building sold at auction, in Hove Town Hall, on Thursday, December 1, for £290,000 – substantially lower than its £500,000 guide price when it first went to auction in November last year.

The contracts have been exchanged, but will not be completed until January 6.

This is the third time the building has gone to auction, with attempts to sell the property in November, 2010, and February this year (2011).

Parish council clerk Colin Hunt said he had not yet heard from the new owners of the property.

He said: “There are certain things they need to discuss with us so as soon as they make contact with me I will have a little bit more information regarding what the future of the venture is.

“It could be a good venture if the people have got the financial support to complete the project.”
