Concerns have been raised that new plans to redevelop the Aquarena will ‘dominate’ the surrounding area.

Susan Belton, chairman of Worthing Society, said: “The Worthing Society remains opposed to Roffey Homes’ plans for the redevelopment of the Aquarena.

“The new design meets some of the criticisms of the proposals that were refused planning permission last year.

“It provides an open space and a cafe on the beach.

“However, the scale of the development remains too large for this site and the 15 storey tower is wholly out of character with its surroundings and with Worthing’s seafront.

“It would dominate the Grade II* Listed Beach House, the southern end of the Farncombe Road Conservation Area and the Edwardian houses of Merton Road and New Parade.”
