MP backs shows support for national apprenticeship week

W19742H12 WH 100 IN 100 APPRENTICES NORTHBROOK COLLEGE PIC S.G. 08.05.2012 100 Apprentices in 100 days end of campaign Northbrook College Tuesday MP Tim Loughton with Albion in the Community W19742h12

Having backed the Herald’s apprenticeship campaign with Northbrook College last year, East Worthing and Shoreham MP has expressed his belief that alternatives to degree studies are more vital than ever.

Across East Worthing and Shoreham 790 people started apprenticeships in the academic year 2011-12, and another 270 have started in the first quarter of this academic year.

This comes as the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) has released a forecast that apprenticeships completed over the next decade could contribute productivity gains worth up to ÂŁ3.4 billion a year to the economy by 2022.

Last year’s 100 in 100 campaign across the Herald and Gazette area helped gained dozens of young people gain their first foot on the career ladder through studies at Northbrook College.

Mr Loughton said:“Conservatives in Government are investing in apprenticeships to ensure that the country has the skills it needs to compete in the world and people across Worthing and Shoreham are benefitting from this. I know from work that I have seen from providers in my constituency that apprenticeships are a win for the individual and a win for the business.

“National Apprenticeship this week provides a great opportunity to celebrate the positive impact that apprenticeships have on individuals, businesses and the economy.”

“The Herald has played key role in promoting apprenticeships in the area and I hope that we can build on that success again this year during National Apprenticeship Week 2013.”
