Plan to build 29 apartments on former Worthing care home site

A MAJOR sheltered housing developer wants to convert the former Ashmount care home into 29 apartments.

Ashmount, in Southey Road, was formerly operated by Worthing charity Guild Care, but it was decided earlier this year to close the home because it would cost too much to fund necessary improvements.

Churchill Retirement Living is asking Worthing council for planning permission to convert Ashmount into 29 apartments – 21 one-bedroom and eight two-bedroom units.

Ashmount housed more than 40 residents before its closure. Guild Care has announced plans to build a new 84-bed care home at Northbrook College’s Durrington campus to meet changing care environment.
