THE return of snowy conditions has not only caused widespread travel delays for the area, but also affected businesses and postal services across Worthing.
Postal workers at Royal Mail’s base in Chapel Road were sent home on safety grounds this morning, (Tuesday, March 12), as road condition continued to be treacherous. Many parents were forced to take a day off work, with the area’s schools being closed due to the weather.
Police had also warned against driving unless necessary, as journey times in yesterday evening’s rush hour trebled in Worthing, taking well over an hour on untreated icy side roads. As a result, emergency services were called to around 300 incidents across the county during the past 24 hours, including a Morrisons lorry that became stranded on broadwater bridge yesterday evening at around 7pm.
According to weather statistics, yesterday was the coldest day in March since 1965, with temperatures registering around -2 degrees, with some places even colder overnight. For full story, see this week’s Worthing Herald.
