The Tesco Express store in Chapel Road, Worthing was running out of Marmite and Hellman’s mayonnaise on the shelves. They were just two of the brands pulled from the retailer’s website due to an ongoing dispute with Unilever, which makes the products. Unilever is raising the prices of its products after the value of the pound dropped sharply following the Brexit vote earlier this year. But for local shoppers there was some good news, as PG Tips tea, Ben and Jerry’s ice cream and Comfort fabric conditioner – also Unilever products – were full on the shelves, and Pot Noodles were being restocked. The dispute has now been resolved. The question is, could you live in a world without Marmite? Herald reporters James Butler and Michael Drummond make their cases for the ‘love’ and ‘hate’ camps, and you can pick a side in the poll below.
