WORTHING’S tourism sector is set to receive a £170,000 boost from the EU.
A new children’s play area on Beach House Grounds and improvements to Splash Point are just two of the spending ideas proposed for the lump sum, which was given to Worthing Borough Council through the European 2 Seas programme.
The council regeneration team has formed a partnership with 10 other towns across England, France, Belgium and the Netherlands to put together a project called “Seaconomics”, which will fund a number of initiatives aimed at growing the tourism sector.
The success of the funding application has meant the council’s regeneration team has drawn more than £1million of external funding over the past couple of years.
Bryan Turner, Worthing cabinet member for regeneration, said: “This project offers a fantastic and unique opportunity for tourism businesses in Worthing to really put the town on the tourism map across Europe and beyond.”
